Random Thoughts Friday: You Have Nothing to Prove
Are you ready for the weekend? I know I am! Reports of traumatic events, political unrest, and a tense work environment make a person want to “shut down” and disconnect from the world momentarily to find peace and balance.

People are always looking for “that place”—the space no one can invade, the space that is theirs alone to cultivate a sense of complete freedom. It’s a refuge away from judgment, expectations, and the weight of disappointment that comes when you don’t meet the goals someone else set for you.
I have a dog named Jax, and he has two safe places: under my sofa and his crate. When he goes there, it signals that he needs a “timeout,” and I allow him that alone time without interference or interruption. We deserve that same grace.

The Origins of the “Prove Yourself Syndrome”
The “Prove Yourself Syndrome” begins almost immediately. As children, we seek approval by getting good grades, attending college, and aiming for a “successful” and “lucrative” career. Often, parents define exactly what that path and salary should look like. This doesn't usually come from a place of control, but from a sincere desire to see their children “do well”—without realizing how these expectations affect their sovereignty.

There is a plethora of resources on how to be successful. The same is not true when it comes to satisfying your inner tempo and finding that space where you don’t have to pay a high geography tax—sailing through life instead of actually living it.
I remember graduating from high school and doing what “everybody” else did: heading off to college. I quickly discovered it wasn’t “my time” for higher education. I didn’t need university curricula; I needed to find my sovereignty, my peace, and my safe place.
The Workplace “Prove Yourself” Trap
How many times have you heard an employer say, “You have to prove yourself” to get a raise, a promotion, or a transition to a new role? We are caught in a constant "prove yourself" cycle. It is here that people arguably pay the highest geography tax, because the stress of performance and people-pleasing causes a high level of discontentment. We feel like failures based on subjective benchmarking standards set by others.

This is particularly true if your job is in contradiction to your desired career path. For many of us, the job we are in looks nothing like the one we applied for. Personal success is often rooted in professional dissatisfaction.
It takes real courage to walk away from a career you've spent years building, especially without a solid plan for a new revenue stream. Friends might tell you you’re making a mistake, while secretly wishing they dared to do the same. But sovereignty is rarely found in a paycheck or material things. Fear of life change loses its power when you have a blueprint.

Invest in Your Sovereignty
It sounds simple to invest in your happiness, but it’s one of the most difficult things to do. We are taught to manage finances and maintain high credit scores, but we rarely discuss creating a “Blueprint of Sovereignty”—mapping out what life would look like as your authentic self.
The point of the blueprint isn't to know exactly what you'll do for the rest of your life. The purpose is to stop and examine how your environment is impacting you, what it would take to find internal peace, and to identify "the soil" you can thrive in. By doing this, we learn that it is okay to march to the beat of a different drum. The world is diverse; it goes against reason that we should all be polarized in how we live.
Find Your Safe Space: The Global Challenge
I am starting a Global Challenge today: Find your safe space to reconnect with your authentic self.
If you aren't sure where to start, Where Do I Belong? can help you. Finding your center can be as simple as selecting a word or phrase to focus on and dedicating one hour each morning to your blueprint—whether through exercise, meditation, or planning.
Be courageous enough to disconnect from your phone, your laptop, and even your friends to dedicate that hour to yourself. You will begin to see what real sovereignty feels like.
