Reflection Before Relocation: DON’T START PACKING YET!

The lure of beautiful beaches, the escape from soul-crushing traffic, and the promise of a

slower pace are powerful incentives to move abroad. We often fantasize that a “transformative location” is the magic key to inner peace and the ultimate reduction of our geography tax.

But in this rush to exit, we often fail to reflect on what is actually disturbing our sovereignty. We long for the way life used to be, but the past is just that—a memory that remains elusive. Everyone transforms as they mature; just as we outgrow the things we once loved as children, we eventually outgrow the environments that once nurtured us.

Before you commit to a new coordinate, take a beat.

Moving abroad is a radical shift: it requires navigating new languages, adjusting to different cultural norms, trading the convenience of a personal vehicle for public transit, and adapting to living spaces that may challenge your comfort zone.

Don't let these realities become a surprise after you’ve already signed the lease.

At Where Do I Belong?, we recommend a small, strategic investment in the “Tuesday Morning Journal” to avoid these costly mistakes. It is a simple yet powerful tool that we believe everyone considering an international move should use to conduct a “soul audit.”

More importantly, you have a starting place for setting boundaries in your new locations so that you don’t replicate the life that you want to move away from

Use it to bridge the gap between your current reality and your future goals—and decide, with clarity, if a new zip code is truly the answer, or if the life you’re craving is waiting for you to build it right where you are
